NEWS FROM GAMNAA

EXHIBITION "SEQUEIRA - THE FINAL STUDIES", in Teto Pintado Room.

Exhibition sponsored by: GAMNAA

18th of April - 26th of May 2024

After almost 30 years, these four preparatory drawings made by Domingos Sequeira for the series of compositions he painted in Rome towards the end of his active years in the city (1827-1833) - the Adoration of the Magi, the Descent from the Cross, Ascension and the Final Judgement - are once again on public display at the National Museum of Ancient Art. Produced on almost the same scale as the corresponding oil paintings, the solutions for the final compositions appear to be already fully established here, although the artist did reformulate certain details.

These four cartoons were acquired from the heirs of the Marquis de Souza e Holstein by the Academia de belas Artes, from where they were transferred to the Museum.

With the support of the Group of Friends of the National Museum of Ancient Art, the MNAA's Education Service was in Lebanon working in partnership with the "Lisbon Garage Theatre!" and the Lebanese NGO "Tiro Association for Arts".
In the cities of Tripoli and Tyro, they held workshops in humanitarian mediation work with uprooted, displaced, vulnerable, and precarious communities.
The aim was to contribute to the valorisation of intangible heritage (common and shareable), to the development of the notion of citizenship, promoting practices that facilitate access to artistic and cultural goods, from an inclusive and democratic perspective.
